The Quilcene School District newsletter is a project which required a significant amount of time.
The newsletter is distributed to all Quilcene residents. I led an initiative to restructure the layout of the paper while writing articles highlighting both retroactive and proactive school events. The goal of this initiative was to represent the district in a professional and timeless feel.
Collaborating with the administration team at Quilcene, we presented the new school bond proposal with our revitalized design.
I am now developing a website to digitalize the newsletter, offering real-time articles about Quilcene events. The goal is to found an official publication in Quilcene, run by students.
Each year school districts within Jefferson County are given a column in the Port Townsend Leader, where a student representative is chosen to write an article. I was approached by the superintendent and selected for this position.
In the article, each section of the school was included:
Athletics
Academics
Arts
CTE
During Quilcene's hybrid schedule of virtual and in-person learning, I took advantage of the virtual time to pursue an article on two local sustainability efforts.
While my work has matured since this piece, it acts as a catalyst for the work I would continue to pursue at Quilcene.
In addition, this article also incited collaboration between two different schools and personal friendships.
